Here are some tips to prevent High blood pressure, even if you have many risk factors, there are some guidelines to prevent or control your hypertension.

1. Eat Balanced Diet– Choose a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits & vegetables, also low in fat, sugar & salt.

2. Get Regular Exercise — Exercise is a key factor in preventing high blood pressure. Start moderate level activity like brisk walking or bicycling exercise for 30 minutes at least for 5 days in a week.

3. Maintain Weight– Maintain an ideal body weight or losing your extra pounds will help you to prevent high blood pressure.

4. Limit your Salt — Salt & sodium can increase blood pressure, so it’s very important to read food labels. Avoid salt that you add at the table or salt added to processed foods you consume.

5. Don’t Smoke — Smoking increases your chance of developing heart disease, stroke, cancers, etc. Try to avoid second-hand smoke.

6. No Tobacco– Tobacco increases your chance of high blood pressure, heart disease, etc.

7. Avoid Alcohol — Stop alcohol or keep it in moderate quantity.

8. Stress management– In response to stress, your body produces chemicals that make your heartbeat harder & faster and your blood vessels tighten. All these make your blood pressure higher. Stress-free life helps to relax all your muscles of your body including the heart which turns to reduce blood pressure.

9. Regular Health Checkups — Consult your physician & get tested with essential health checkups. Learn what your blood pressure & other test readings mean to your health.

10. If you are on medicine or started medicine– If you have blood pressure & treatment started, don’t be afraid to ask questions to your physician or get a second opinion. Once you understand why you are taking medicine, follow the recommended dose.
